The Microneedling treatment includes skin regeneration by stimulating collage and elastin production for a visible improvement in the overall appearance of skin with virtually no downtime. Microneedling improves skin texture, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles. The outcome is beautiful, youthful looking skin. It is highly effective for a range of ages, skin types, and conditions. It can also be used on skin that is sensitive to chemicals or heat and is an effective option for someone who cannot receive chemical peels, IPL, or laser treatments. For best results a series of 3-6 treatments is recommended at 4 week intervals. However, even a single treatment should result in a visible improvement to the skin.

FAQ's about Micro Needling and the Skin Pen

What device is used to perform Micro Needling?
Micro needling is performed with a cordless surgical skin wand outfitted with pulsing fractional micro-thin needles. We selected Skin Pen for micro needling due to its superior construction, safety, and effectiveness.

How is the treatment performed?
The micro needling device is applied to skin in gentle strokes completely covering the area being treated. The tiny needles penetrate the skin to create microscopic channels which cause the skin to immediately activate production of healing collagen and elastin. The treatment finishes with the application of a soothing mask. Over the course of a few days, the surface layer of the skin is sloughed off and a new layer of skin cells come to the surface. Visible changes to the skin occur over the course of several weeks and up to 6 months after treatment.

How is Micro Needling different from laser, photo facial, or IPL treatments?
The results of all of the above treatments are somewhat similar, however, there are some differences. We have observed that micro needling is extremely effective for textural issues and fine lines and wrinkles. Lasers, photo facials, and IPL treatments are more effective for reduction or elimination of pigment and redness. The treatments are actually complimentary to each other and both can be received by the same individual for best results.

Who should have Micro Needling treatments?
Patients of ALL SKIN TYPES looking to attain firmer, brighter and more even skin on the face, neck, and decollete.

Micro Needling helps with:
- Rough skin texture
- Dull, dehydrated skin
- Acne scars
- Post-surgery scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Older skin that regenerates slower
- Skin that is sensitive to heat or chemical treatments

Patients with active acne or open wounds in the treatment area are not advised to have this treatment.

Does it hurt?
When used in conjunction with topical application of numbing cream prior to treatment, patients have described feeling prickly as the wand is stroked over the skin. The device can be adjusted to suit individual comfort level. After the treatment, patients may experience a mild to moderate tingling or stinging sensations which can be addressed with over the counter analgesics such as Tylenol or Advil. Skin may also feel tight and sensitive to touch. This is the sensation of skin rebuilding itself and is an indicator that micro needling is working. Generally these sensations pass within 24-48 hours.

What is the downtime?
There is virtually no downtime! There will be light to moderate redness in treatment area for approximately 24-48 hours. The skin will begin to slough off a few days after treatment. The total healing time will depend upon the strength of the treatment and the individual response. Most people feel that their skin is “back to normal” within a week.

Can I use makeup after treatment?
It is best to leave the area free from makeup for the first 24 hours after treatment.

How frequently should I have micro needling treatments?
For sustained results, we recommend initially getting 3-6 treatments performed 4 weeks apart and continuing with 3 treatments per year spaced 4 months apart. However, even one treatment results in a visible improvement of the skin.
